The Cardiff Commitment team wanted to keep partners updated with its activity as we go into a new academic year. This year will look very different for schools and therefor so will the way we engage with them. Below are a number of ways we look to work with schools and business. We anticipate that engagement will not take place until the new academic year but may have requests between now and then. This time will be spent planning.
Whilst we are looking to progress engagement with businesses we totally understand that these are challenging times. There is no requirement to engage if you are not in a position to do so at the moment. If it’s something your organisation is ready to do then we very much look forward to working with you.
New Cardiff Commitment Pledge
In line with the new curriculum and Cardiff Commitment’s new programme of delivery (see below our programme portfolio) the team have produced a new pledge form. Please can you fill this out and return asap to email@example.com. If you would like a copy of your old pledge to compare then please let me know.
Experience of Work Pilot with Careers Wales
The Cardiff Commitment is running an Experiences of Work pilot with Cardiff West High School and St Teilos High School this academic year. The Experiences of Work pilot will aim to explore the potential impact of offering a full spectrum and package of ‘experiences of work’ to build sustainable good practice within schools. The pilot will deliver a programme of events and experiences spanning the whole school, delivered collaboratively with key stakeholders and this will provide schools, pupils and parents/carers access to opportunities which can be tailored to suit each individual school’s needs.
We will be approaching businesses to explore if the pilot is of interest and arrange meeting to discuss further.
If this is something you are interested in exploring further then please get in contact.
Open Your Eyes Week & Employer Challenges
Open Your Eyes Week was a week where employers would deliver 1 hour sessions with year 6 pupils to ignite and inspire interest in a wide range of occupations. We are now exploring how to deliver OYEW virtually, using the existing content employers have used for past events but adapting it so you can deliver via MS Teams etc. We will be looking to hold a virtual Employer Engagement event in the coming weeks to support employers with virtual opportunities like the above.
In the meantime, if you have delivered an Open Your Eyes Week session previously, please revisit the material – presentation and activities – and start exploring how you could adapt the presentation and activity to be able to deliver virtually via MS Teams.
We would also like employers to start thinking about ‘Employer Challenges’ that they can leave with the school so the pupils can continue to learn about your organisation/skills needed in the weeks after your OYEW session. This is something we will be covering in our next Employer Engagement, Delivering Virtual Opportunities, on the 15th October. If you would like to attend please email firstname.lastname@example.org to receive further information.
Virtual Work Experience & Workshops
We previously piloted a virtual work experience programme and a virtual employer workshop delivered via MS Teams with Cardiff Commitment partners and 2 schools in Cardiff.
The Virtual WeX and the employer workshop was delivered to a group of year 10 pupils, with full support of school staff, and was a combination of live MS Teams calls, project work and pre-recorded videos. Attached is an example of the Kier Construction WeX programme.
This is something we will be covering in our next Employer Engagement, Delivering Virtual Opportunities, on the 15th October. If you would like to attend please email email@example.com to receive further information.
If you would like to discuss any of the above with a member of the team please email firstname.lastname@example.org
