Shape My Street, School, is a collaborative educational project that helps students explore architecture, construction, and community design in a creative and meaningful way. Developed by The Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff Council Curriculum Team, industry experts, and teachers, the project encourages children to design, and build small scale projects in their their school environment that benefit the wider community.

Developed by the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff Council’s Cardiff Commitment Team, teachers and industry partners, the initiative has already been acknowledged at the Inspire Future Generations Awards 2025 (IFGA25) and scooped top prize in the Education category, in recognition of excellence and impact in empowering children and young people to advocate for a better built environment.

Through hands-on activities and classroom learning, students:

  • Discover how buildings shape our lives and communities.
  • Connect STEM and Carbon Literacy topics to real-world experiences.
  • Learn about careers in construction and their potential role in the world of work.
  • Challenge stereotypes and promote equality and inclusion.
  • Develop a sense of agency by sharing students ideas for better school, and community spaces.

The project supports the Curriculum for Wales and aligns with Social Value and Community Wellbeing TOMs, including NTW6, NTW33, NTW59, NTW76, and NTW77 making it ideal for contractors aiming to meet specific social value commitments.

2024-25 Partnerships included:
