Empowering Cardiff's Youth: A Year of Inspiring Youth Support Service Events

The 2023/2024 academic year saw Cardiff Commitment's Youth Support Service (YSS) events reach new heights, bringing together a diverse array of organizations dedicated to empowering young people aged 16-24. Our series of virtual presentations not only informed but inspired, connecting 159 post-16 professionals with vital resources for youth development.

Let's take a closer look at the 10 dynamic organizations that shared their expertise:

  1. Dallaglio Rugby Works

Using the power of rugby, this innovative program focuses on four cornerstones: physical wellbeing, mental wellbeing, raising aspirations, and developing life skills. Targeting young people aged 12-18 who are at risk of or have been excluded from mainstream education, Dallaglio Rugby Works aims to create the next generation of talented coaches in the sports for development sector.

  1. Network 75

Offering a unique "Work, Earn and Learn" approach, Network75 combines work placements with part-time degree studies. This program allows students to apply academic knowledge to real-world scenarios, gaining invaluable experience and qualifications highly sought after by industry.

  1. BBC Cymru Wales

As the nation's broadcaster, BBC Cymru Wales opened doors to exciting opportunities in their new Central Square home. From journalism and radio to sport, broadcast technology, and finance, their range of apprenticeships and traineeships offers diverse pathways into the media industry.

  1. Adferiad

Focused on mental health, Adferiad has developed programs based on insights from young people themselves. Their workshops cover crucial topics such as resilience, stress management, friendships, social pressures, and work-life balance, equipping youth with tools to navigate life's challenges.

  1. The Prince's Trust Cymru

As the UK's leading youth charity, The Prince's Trust Cymru offers courses and resources designed to help 16-30 year olds develop essential life skills and prepare for the workforce. Their Engagement and Employability programs provide a springboard for young people facing various challenges.

This online career platform offers engaging virtual experiences that allow young people aged 13+ to explore industries and develop work-related skills. Springpod connects youth with world-leading employers and educational institutions, fostering confidence in their next steps.

  1. Iungo Solutions

With a focus on the booming semiconductor sector in South Wales, Iungo Solutions offers a Semiconductor Skills Bootcamp for ages 16-25. This program helps young people transition into an industry projected to triple its job opportunities by 2025.

Catering to aspiring musicians, Anthem has created an online gateway packed with resources, advice, and weekly opportunities for young people interested in music industry careers. From getting gigs to social media management, the Anthem Gateway is a comprehensive resource for budding musicians.

Based in the heart of Cardiff, ITEC offers young people the chance to gain hands-on experience in businesses while earning an NVQ Level 1 Qualification. This paid opportunity provides a practical pathway for youth looking to enter the workforce.

Focusing on crucial transition periods, Into Work Advice Services and Youth Services shared information on their summer programs. These initiatives provide vital support for young people during the summer months and around results day.
